I am in a love hate relationship with windows 8. Today, I am trying to get my scanner to work with windows 8. I have went to the desktop mode because it is sometimes easier. However, I can't seem to locate the same tools that I was using on xp. It has been awhile since I wanted to scan something to my computer but, if memory serves me right, in xp I clicked on devices/printers scanners and then took me through steps. I am not finding that when I click on the printers/scanners device. I am only finding printer setup. Where do I find the tools to select the scanner to operate. I can get it to print so I think the drivers are there or do I need to download a separate scanner driver. I let the computer, when asked, to search for drivers for me. So I was under the impression I have everything. Hope I'm clear. Sometimes I'm clear as mud. Also, I have tried doing a search all over and can't seem to find anything about using scanners with windows 8. It will say it in the heading and then when I click on it it goes to something dated in 2010. grrr.

I have an HP all-in-one, and I just had to go to the HP site and download the drivers for Windows 8. I don't think there was a separate control panel for setting up the scanner. So, I'd recommend just checking the manufacturer's site. HTH!

I despise my new windows 8 computer

That said my other one had the fan go out so I'm being Forced to use it!! I plugged in my old Kodak camera, and off it went, installed all that was needed automatically hmmm that was good

Tonight I tried the printer - Ta Da - No need to look for the Control Panel for Devices and install.

Plug it in and see if Windows 8 does the install for you?! So far I've done 2 "old" camera and HP Printer and it was too Wiz Bang easy. Not saying I LOVE Win 8 yet.... but :-)

They have taken Plug and Play to a new level

I don't have Windows 8, but any program should have the ability to import from a scanner. If you have paint program, it should have an import command and select Twain device...that should open up a scanner window for you.

I just got off the manufactures site. I think I'm going to have to call there are several drivers and a couple for windows 8. So, I guess which one is what I need to know but, I'm sure the computer downloaded it all because the printer works. Anyhow I need to call maybe they can give me more info on their printer/scanner and windows 8

I'll be right over It may take me a couple days AZ a few states away. If I can't get this to work I'm going to have to use my crappy computer with a cursor that zooms to the bottom of the screen after 2 min. all you can do is move that mouse as fast as you can to get the cursor to where you want it. A big PITA. So no fooling around, know what you want and do it quickly on that other computer. Or spend all day shutting it down waiting an hour and going back for only a couple min again.

I had no problem with XP scanning and knowing where the scanner device was and how to use it. I just think either I don't have the right driver or I'm just looking in the wrong place. But, I have looked all over the desktop I'm just stumped. I will have a look to see if there is a paint program on here. Haven't found the need yet for that. Haven't even attempted to download pictures from sd card either. Mostly been using for my embroidery which now is why I want the scanner to work. If can't get to work after looking for a paint program and talking to manufacture I will end up scanning to the old crappy computer and then putting my scans onto flash drive and downloading here. Who knows that will be the next problem

Yipee!!! I found the paint app under apps. it wasn't on the screen when you open win 8 with a bunch of the apps. but I found it when I swipped the right side then selected search and then selected apps. In there it did have the option of "import from scanner" I'm hopefull it works, I haven't tried it and now the girls are up and want breakfast. So, will try later.
Thanks so much for all your help here and at the machine embroidery thread!!!

It works!
Also, since I haven't used 5D creator in along time (about a year) I forgot there was a tool there to import also until I got the paint app to download then took it to creator and ureka there it is a question asking if I want to import from scanner. Oh Well, I'm glad I found out about Paint because My DD's use my computer all the time for scanning in pictures too for homework so, I needed to know about paint anyhow.

My recently new Win8 machine found my Epson printer and it worked, but it didn't do the stuff it did on XP. It was using a generic driver so I had to go to the mfg site and download the Win7 drivers because they hadn't created any drivers newer than Win7, but it now works just like it did in XP. Had to buy a different usb parrallel port for my Babylock palette too. The one I had didn't recognize Win8. I seem to have everything up and going now and am accepting Win8 as the latest and greatest, but I still liked XP better!

I think that is what it did here. Its listed in my programs as a universal print driver. I will have to call the manufacture as I'm not sure which to use as there is two listed under windows 8. I also just found the paint program where it has "import from scanner" yippee! I have yet to use it. But I'm confident it'll work. If not I'll be back.
