Anyone in these areas interested in sewing, shopping, talking sewing together? I'm at the north end of SFV, primarily a garment sewer, moved up from Orange County and most of my sewing contacts are still there :(

Have you checked out the ASG-Los Angeles chapter. Their website is www.asgla.org They are primarily located in the upper area of LA county. You might be able to find a neighborhood group near you that meets your needs.

I live on the other end of LA county (a hop, skip and jump from the border to the OC) and there is not too much in garment sewing around here - although there are several quilt groups.

Thanks I did and was just about to go there next as I recall seeing a couture group up this way in Calabasas. I still go to OC a day or two a week as I still work for a machine dealer down there.

It is actually a Neighborhood Group through the ASG Los Angeles Chapter. I have never been, although I do know some of the sewists in the group since I have been active in this particular ASG chapter.

For more information go to: www,asgla.org and click on Neighborhood Groups. There you will find where they meet/times and a contact person. You can attend a group as a guest (without joining ASG). It is a great way to meet other sewists.

I sent an email to the contact listed for that group, seems they're in the midst of a Marfy challenge so I want to be sure it's ok to start attending mid project. I think it meets in a music store/facility in Calabasas. I'll post when I get a reply!

I meet with the ladies in the Calabasas group. It's dedicated to sewing garments and some of the ladies are working on a Marfy pattern, but we don't work on it during the meeting. We usually try to pick a garment sewing related topic and look up info and present to the group; last month was sewing collars, I believe next month will be foundation (corset/boning). The future topics will include pressing tools, interfacings. You can also bring in your own projects that you are working on and get fitting help.

Forgot to add that you can bring any project that you are working on and get help too if there are some aspects of the project that you are stuck with. I haven't been very productive with my sewing output but I like to attend and listen to others' experiences and learn something that way.

Great, hope you can join us. The ladies there are very talented and make gorgeous garments. Some of the ladies have taken Susan Khalje's classes and use her couture techniques.
