I picked up a yard of this fabric at my LQS (they only had the one bolt). It was so pretty that I started searching online to find more patterns.
This is a yarn dyed Japanese cotton that is the most beautiful cotton I have EVER seen. I ended up ordering 8 more yards to make a quilt. But it is so gorgeous that I wonder if I'll ever be able to cut into it.

For years, I have seen it advertised in quilt magazines but it was impossible to find online and in LQS. I finally gave up, and it's probably more easily accessible now. Isn't it just gorgeous?!?
How is the hand of the fabric?

Eh, go ahead and cut into it. Just order another half-yard to keep for petting. It's really okay to do that. Really. I have just a few fabrics I 'visit.' I take them out of their storage box, admire their beauty (IMO), pet them, and put them back.

Doris,
It actually took a good bit of searching to find the few places that sell this fabric.
It is very silky for a cotton and tightly woven. It's about the same weight as other quilt cottons.

I bought some Daiwabo recently from Hawthorne Threads where it is listed as a house designer -- I bought some home decor fabric called Tip Top Canvas. I think they have a few quilt cottons as well.

I happened to make a trip yesterday to my very favorite quilt shop (about an hour and a half from my home) that I only hit a few times a year. I was stunned when I asked about Daiwabo and the women there showed me at least 50 bolts of it...all absolutly gorgeous. We had quite a time oohing and aahing over it together. So, of course, I had to pick up a few more yards of it.
That's why it's my favorite shop, they always have fabric that no one else has and they have all sorts of items for inspiration.
