I really hate when people turn an old Singer Treadle base into a table. But take a look at this one: a wood carver has tried to do it justice by harkening to its original use in a very conceptual way:

That is very well done and a good use of an old treadle base.

I really don't have a problem with turning treadles into table bases, as long as the process can be reversed when/if required. This carving, while quite creative, leaves me wondering if one could really use it for a functional table???

Not knowing what the machine originally looked like, and I've seen some doozies on CL, I don't have a problem with the table modification. However, is this functional? You're losing a lot of table space with the carving, so how functional can this table be, other than a piece of art?

I'm too functional when it comes to sewing related items.

I think its kinda cool.

From what I've seen, these treadle bases are EVERYWHERE. I usually don't even give them second look. If this is the alternative to letting it molder away in a garage, then why not?

Very nice work of art. Art does not need to be functional. Nice setting for it also.

I'm not as virulently opposed to repurposing the Singer treadles as I am the others, because Singers are so common. And I love what he did with it :)
