I'm looking for either instructions or a pattern (preferably) with the zipper in the front pocket.

It seems like a great feature, eliminating bulk in the center front.

Here is a picture of one about half way down the page: http://www.wildginger.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=8816&posts=14&start=1

Thank you for your help!

If you use the cut on fly method that is so popular on PR, it wouldn't be too difficult to take any pants pattern with slant front pockets and do it yourself. Just make sure you alter the waistband accordingly if it's a contour waistband. The thread you link to says that Sandra Betzina has a tutorial for this in her book Power Sewing, the chapter is called Zipper in a Pocket on page 67. You could check the library if you don't want to own it.
I'd be concerned about lopsided bulk in the one pocket and the buckling that zippers tend to do when bent, such as when sitting. When your fly is in the front that isn't a problem, but it could look bizarre with this method. I guess I'm overthinking it.
Good luck with it! Be sure to post your progress, I've never seen this before and I'm rather fascinated.

I've done many of these using the instructions in Sandra Betzina's book Power Sewing. It's my preferred method for pants and some skirts. It can be done with a slant pocket or a simple side seam pocket. If your zipper insertion is less than perfect, it won't show at all. I suppose it could look lumpy with very snug fitting pants, but I've never had a problem. What I do have a problem with is the bulge and lumpiness that a fly front often has, positioned in the worst possible place.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have Sandra's book, but the instructions didn't make a lot of sense to me. I guess I should get some fabric, a zipper, a small pants pattern and give it a go.

another option, that I remember from some pants I made in the 80's (pleated, loose fit) was to just have an opening in the pocket. with a 4-5" overlap, there's no need for a zipper at all, just one button at the waist.

basically, just leave the top 5-6" of the inside seam on the pocket bags unsewn.

Yes, and what's great about this method: if you later need a bit more room in the waistband, you can move the button or thread/metal bar to meet your needs.

Now you did it. I just ordered this book. Had it on my wish list for a while and took another look at it. Thanks for the recommendation!

I had a pattern like that & loved those pants. I think I'll try making a pair like that.
