I have a pattern of jeans I like but the waist needs to be increased by 1 1/2" without affecting the hip size. I would also like to increase crotch length by 1/2". How best to accomplish this.

For the change to the waist, it can be done by putting some tracing paper behind your pattern and drawing the additional width you need there and blending gradually down to the existing hip.

Here's a link to a Google book that you may find helpful regarding the crotch length alteration:

one thing to consider, check if the extra width is needed at front and back, or it one needs more than the other. I say this as some people (like me!) need to do this, otherwise one side will not be fitted enough, and the other side will dig in. Not comfy.
