Just released: Press Release of Joint Venture between Hubert Burda Media and F+W Media; quote of topline below/ Web link above.

"Hubert Burda Media and F+W Media Inc. have entered a multi-faceted licensing deal for the burda style brand and burdastyle.com website for distribution in the USA and Canada. burda style USA will be developed as an integrated business model, encompassing the print magazine and the already successful online website and community, as well as e-commerce, in-person and online education services, video content, events, books and e-books."

Hopefully, pattern archives for the US site, descriptions beyond "trendy" and "Pants/trousers" will be offered by native English speakers and better construction instructions will follow.

That's interesting...right now F&W manages an information/education site for artists with videos and books for purchase and download. Their service is poor at best! I have ordered several instructional series for download, only to have to finally request refunds because the links do not work. They sometimes do make an effort to help, but their effort is minimal and after a couple of tries, they usually issue a refund rather than workout the problem.

I hope Burda has better luck with their products with this company!

That is interesting. I've used the Interweave store for jewelry e-books ,projects and downloads and found it works well for me. Interweave is a division of F & W apparently. Hope it works out !

Deb, was it the Interweave store that you had problems with?

I saw this yesterday, and I'm excited. There's much more information in the link they tweeted yesterday, including these immediate objectives:

Immediate initiatives for Burda Style USA include:

* Creation of a Burda Style USA publishing program; encompassing the Burda Style magazine, various e-mags, books and e-books, as well as themed PDF pattern collections, using interactive content and the extensive library of patterns and instruction programs
* Developing and launching direct-to-consumer online products and services including extensive online education programs, a pattern release program with upwards of 20 new projects per month, as well as transactions in sewing related products
* Growing the US online audience through comprehensive SEO/SEM campaigns, email list optimization, social media activities, editorial promotion
* Creating exclusive Burda Style USA sewing kits and VIP programs

Ugh... the Interweave (and related magazines) site is absolutely awful. Not that I was using the BurdaStyle site anyway - but I am hoping the magazine quality won't decline. Interweave Knits went downhill after they launched their new business model or whatever.
