Hi -

Thought I would start a thread and see if anyone has a favorite warm up before fmq. Any hints or favorite notions?

I have previously fmq on a Bernina with bsr. Recently purchased a Juki TL-2010q, its been a while since I have fmq and have been practicing for weeks. Any hints or favorite notions? I am finding it slow to get comfortable again.

I wouldn't say that I do a lot, but I think I do a lot more than some of the other sewing folks I know if I limit that list to people that use their regular home machine not a long arm. LOL

Yep, I just do fmq on domestic sm. A long arm would be awesome, but that's years off! I have a number of quilts waiting to be quilted so working at getting my skills up for fmq.

I haven't done a lot recently, but it does seem to help when I take a used printer paper and pencil then practice the motions I want to make....muscle memory!!

I do that too. Also I always start with a couple of minutes of practice on a test quilt sandwich to get warmed up.

I have noticed I have more control when I draw my design first and then I do use a quilt sandwich and warm up. But I am not talking incredible results here. I just took the Craftsy Class of Cindy Needham, she is amazing.

So do you do loops or do you go right to your design and practice?

So far no warm up for me, just mental bolstering.

I lose interest INSTANTLY trying to work on a practice sandwich. I have to just start on my quilt.

FMQ for my spacially challenged brain is so NOT like drawing I don't find drawing to be real helpful. What helps me the most is having some sort of mark on the quilt to follow or to use as a guide.
