I recently discovered the hi-cut panty pattern in the KwikSew book Beautiful Lingerie. I made one muslin, tweaked the front a bit, and now have the perfect panty pattern. Can't believe how easy it is to make great fitting underwear!

Jan Bones has several well liked panty patterns in her Lingerie Secrets line. She also has a DVD specifically for sewing panties. Check out her website. It won't link from my iPad for some reason, but just Google her. If you call her (in Canada), she's wonderfully helpful.

I have had good luck with Kwik Sew 2908 - only took two tries to get the fit how I wanted it.

There is also the MakeBra panties pattern which is reputed to be very similar in style to the Lingerie Secrets smoothie pantie, which is well liked too.

Also on the MakeBra site is a FREE hipster pantie pattern if you want to try that out first.

I have used several, but had the greatest success by taking a worn out pair of favorites and making a pattern from them. Cut away the elastic and iron out the gathered areas of fabric . I love my copy best!

My advice is the same as Susi's--I got my perfect pattern by tracing over a pair that I already wore and liked. I was able to tweak it to perfection by raising the back waist a little, lower the front waist a little, adding a smidge more room at the side seams, etc. etc. I've made well over a dozen pairs at this point and they are the only panties I am willing to wear anymore.

I used Kwik Sew 2930 when I made my first pair of undies. Good instructions and came out very well, despite my one mistake along the way. This a plus sized pattern, but Kwik Sew 2908 looks very similar and has many reviews for help and clarification. If the pattern I used is any indication, Kwik Sew would be a very good choice.
