I have a Brother Ult2001 and also a PC6000 which stitch beautifully still, but I tend to use them less frequently than I should, because it is so hard to reinsert the race when I clean it. In fact, there is even a page on Ann's Ult2001 website devoted to how to insert the race.

In many ways, these machines were ahead of their time, and I love some of the decorative stitches.

When I eventually buy a new high end model, I'm wondering if the new Brothers and Babylocks have races that are easier to reinsert.

The Baby Lock Grace on up through the Ellisimo Gold have dots that you line up. You have to screw on the metal throat plate, then put in the bobbin case with the felt towards the back. Line up the dots and kind of wiggle back and forth until you feel it seat in. Then you just slide on the gray plastic part. Not hard at all.

I believe most of the Brothers are the same way, higher end machines for sure are.

Before removing the bobbin case, put a tiny dot of nail polish on the case and race so they can be matched up when replacing after cleaning.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like Brother and Babylock have made improvements.

Thank you for the tip about nail polish. Sounds like it will help avoid lots of frustration.
