Is everyone OK who experienced last Friday morning's ice/freezing rain storm in Ontario? I know quite a few people in the country who still don't have power, several days later. A tree in my yard was uprooted and took out my phone and cable lines (fixed now, many thanks to kind helpers who removed the tree).

OK, so I guess no one here was affected -- that's good.

Here's a photo report of the storm, in case anyone's interested.

Friends of mine here in Fergus had problems. We all have sump pumps, so no hydro means a wet basement. At our end of town though, things were just fine.
Glad your repairs were done so quickly.

I hadn't thought of the sump pump thing, for people right next to a river. A lot of us had no heat for a while -- the furnace fan needs electricity, even for a gas furnace. I hadn't thought of that either, until it got to be about 12-13 degrees C in the house. But out in the country they didn't have heat for days -- not sure their power is back on even now, but it may be. They used generators to keep things going, but a generator can only run for a while, so they were pretty bundled up. The power was restored much faster in town -- ours was only out for about 9-10 hours.

Glad to hear you weren't affected. A lot of people in parts of Ontario had serious property damage -- cars, roofs, etc. That tree I lost came down at a perfect angle, just barely missing my roof and the neighbor's roof. It was astonishing. I'm extremely grateful.
