I want to share my 750 update. (background: my new machine had an ugly straight stitch)

I took my machine back to Hinkletown Sewing in Ephrata last week.
I'm a bit perplexed by what transpired but so far the outcome is ok, not perfect but I'm working on it.
I was told that my problem was, that I was using the wrong needle for the thread.
I was using the needled that was installed when I picked up the machine and Mettler Silk Finish cotton.
I took my samples; all quilters cotton (high quality) with me. My dealer also saw the problem.
She changed needle and put on Aurifil and low and behold a straight stitch.
She didn't add a service pack nor fiddle with the tension.

I spent this past weekend quilting table runners and that went well.
I'm hoping to get some piecing done this week.
Piecing is the definitive stitch for me. I need a straight stitch.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Is the 750QE truly that persnickity? My 15 year old Bernina 150 never was this picky?
Also, I've read a lot on the Bernina7Series list about the walking foot.
Are folks talking about the dual feed or a walking foot attachment?

I really do want to love my new machine, especially since the dealer is so far away.
My first class in April 27th and I've started a list of questions that I hope to have answered.
Any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.

I don't have a 7 Series machine, but my 830LE has never balked at any thread I've ever used. It doesn't seem to matter which needle I use either. I hope they get it straightened out for you, because I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have a new machine that won't sew to your satisfaction.

Kristy, my 780 does not seem to be picky about the thread. I have a beautiful, perfect straight stitch with Aurifil, Mettler silk finish, Metrosene, and Floriani Embroidery thread. Those are all I have tested. I did have a thread it did not like in Embroidery, which was an Robison Anton black. Threw it away and used Isacord without a hitch. But no problems with any thread on the sewing side so far. I have tested using the needle that came in the machine, a microtex 70, and an embroidery 75 needle.

I think the needle that comes in the machine is probably a Universal, which I really do not like using on cotton. I changed my needle as soon as I was home and had access to the miicrotex.

Good luck

I am in the UK, and took delivery of my 750 12 days ago. Absolutely no problems so far.
The stitches do appear to be slightly different, depending what fabric I am using but all easily corrected by following the manual's instructions. No problems with the threads.
Very, very pleased so far. [Early days, I know]
This is not my first Bernina, in fact I have several, but
I will have to teach myself this machine, as my dealer is many hours away, but will give telephone support should I need it.
Bernina UK is checking each machine out before they release them to the dealers, so hopefully sorting out any problems there might be, before customers get them. Here the dealers can only order a machine for a named customer at present. [so I've been told]

I have the 830 and can use any thread so I can't imagine the 7 series is any different. It's good you've started a list of questions. Being pro-active is important if there are any issues. Keep us updated. :)

And beware of some black threads that are over dyed. The difference in stitch quality can be amazing using that. Really weird, but I thought something was wrong with my 730 and my 201 Singer using that thread! Turned out it was the thread and not my machines. Other black thread not a problem, just this certain one. I think it was Mettler black.
