Last night my cat went into her phase, running around EVERYWHERE with no purpose or reason. Usually it's quite cute, and she usually hangs around me when I'm home. But last night, I was trying to trace a pattern piece. Not only does she screw up all the carefully folded fabric by dashing all over it, but she tore the pattern piece in half!!!!!! I don't blame her...she has no idea what it is. But the pattern company....tissue paper patterns are SO FRAGILE!!!! I can't afford to buy the pattern AND butcher block to trace pattern pieces, and taping paper together is just a waste of material as well.

Someday I'll have a table and not have to do this on the floor and it won't be as much of a problem....... :P

I'll try anything once :)

Please excuse my typos...sometimes it is harder to go back and edit on mobile than it is worth!

Sometimes I iron the pattern onto the shiny side of freezer paper, then cut it out. It is inexpensive and still cuts easily on fabric. Bernie

I can't either, but there are alternatives -- I've sometimes used those transparent plastic table covers from the dollar store. Even lightweight dollar store tablecloths (clear or colored), or even dollar store shower curtains. Although I most often just tape pieces of tracing paper together, when I can find tracing paper (dollar store again, but not all stores carry this anymore).

Some pattern companies use cheaper tissue than other -- some of the Big 4 are particularly bad... I can't remember which ones, because I usually use Burda envelope patterns, which have better tissue....... but not cat-proof.

This is why I make Sprout go hunt for kibble down in the basement when I need to do floorwork.

Yesterday I left a nice freshly washed fabric on the table so I could cut it out in the evening. While I was at work, one of my cats took a nap on the fabric and then hairballed all over it....
