I am interested in experiences of the e-patterns on their website, NOT the free ones from Fabric.com.

Having downloaded a couple of the free PDF patterns from Fabric.com to try out Hot Patterns, I then proceeded to their own website to look at their pattern offering.

I duly placed an order, which contained both paper and e-patterns, but it was not until after I'd ordered that I noticed that the e-patterns you order through their website are administered through PrintSew , rather than as a PDF.

(the reason I ordered both paper and e-patterns is that international postage is steep!!! an opinion piece on the merits of PrintSew is a whole other topic?!)

While it is my own stupid fault for not checking before I placed my order, it didn't occur to me they would be in a different format (ie. not able to be saved to my computer) to the free patterns. Had I realised this, I would have stumped up the extra postage for the paper pattern, as the cost difference between paper and digital was minimal.

Has anyone had an experience of the HotPatterns through PrintSew?
How long after you placed your e-pattern order did it take for the link to come through to you?

I just bought the new top as a download and had trouble. I thought it would be a direct PDF and instead I received confusing messages about setting up some kind of software....

I really just want to order the paper version...I am through with downloads.

I guess it is my fault for not being tech savvy...but I tried to install the new stuff and my new Mac Air didn't like.

I also have a Mac and ended up needing to use my husbands laptop to download from print sew. I printed everything out only to discover that the one pattern I wanted wasn't there. Contacting them is still on my to do list. I have only ever used e patterns I bought one paper, got overwhelmed and stuffed it back in the envelope

The only way to have a permanent copy is to print and then scan it. Tedious. I was just annoyed that I had to print out all of the patterns instead of the views I needed. A lot of paper.

I hate printsew and don't order anything that uses their format. If I pay for a pattern, I want a copy on my computer because the whole idea behind an ecopy is to not take up space Printsew is wonky and strange. I don't normally have problems with computers or computer programs, but I just won't do this to myself. I have used the free patterns and they don't always line up very well.

I've not tried HP Printsew for the same reasons and because other online sellers like Burda, Colette and other indies have spoiled me by having their downloads as .pdfs. I dunno..guess I like to just have the pattern on my HD to print whatever pages I choose whenever I feel like it and acquire it from the seller inside of 1 minute without jumping through hoops.
There was a thread about this a couple of months or so ago when HP first offered online printing, but can't find it now.

I dislike PrintSew as well. I ordered a pattern some time ago and still have not been able to print. It's too frustrating so I just gave up.........probably should have e-mailed and complained. I have just chalked it up to experience and I make sure any e-patterns I order are in the PDF form.

You're right. I ran away (quickly) when I saw HP were using printsew for their patterns. I might drop them a line to express my disappointment.

Thanks for the commiserations.

I politely emailed to ask how long I should expect it to take to receive my e-pattern, and received a response within 24 hours.

I found my pattern on PrintSew without issue (except having to change browsers), and was thinking wow, they've really conserved paper on this one, but then thought something wasn't quite right when the pages were coming off my printer with plenty of blank bits.
Turns out the pattern had been split into two different docs you need to print out to get the entire pattern. I'm just pleased I noticed while I was still at PrintSew, so I don't have to go back in there!
