I have several different brands of glue sticks. A Fabric Gluestick, Uhu stic, and Lapel Stick...they all work well enough except the Fabric gluestick seems gummier than the others and the Lapel stick is the least gummy of all - more waxy.
The liquid glues I have are Elmer's, Roxanne's and Elmer's Purple. I like using Roxanne's for quilt bindings and for bindings on placemats; the applicator tip that comes with it is really excellent for controlling the line of glue.
I'm wondering, in the case of the gluesticks, if sewing through the glue is likely to gum up my needles and or machines.
Anyone use these and care to comment?

I use gluestick all the time. I mostly use Bostik blustick (a paper/general use glue). I have used a fabric glue, but like you, found it a bit gummy. It did have a smaller diameter, which in some situations is better, but not worthwhile enough for me to buy another. I've also used UHU gluestick but prefer the Bostik. I always wait for the glue to dry ( or iron it dry, if I'm in a hurry) I've never had a problem with the glue I use gumming up the needle.

I have one of these glue sticks by Sewline. It is narrower, thus easy to apply in tighter situations. I like that it uses refillable glue cartridges. I've been using it for paper piecing. I lurv it!

I use glue sticks for a number of things. I get the cheapest washable stick I can find. I always let it dry before I do any sewing. If you're in a hurry a dry hot iron will speed it up.

I use Roxanne's liquid and Aleene's Original Sticky Glue Sticks without any needle gumming.

The glue sticks don't dry out and can be found at Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart and JoAnn.

I buy the large pack of elemers glue stick at the beginning of the school year when they are practically giving it away at staples or target. I use it for everything, especially instead of basting. They don't usually dry out before I get more the next year.
