Subject: High Rounded Forward Shoulder Date: 4/20/13 10:33 PM

I have strange shoulders and cannot get anything to fit them. Both of my shoulders are round & forward. My right shoulder is 3/8" inch higher than big 4 patterns and is 1" higher than the left shoulder. I also have narrow (short length) shoulders. I am currently working on a blouse with a forward yolk. Does anyone know what alternations I should make?

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your question. Your situation is like many of us here on PR, including myself, so do you want sympathy, help, to rant, or are you exuding frustration? Spit it out and we'll be right here to help!

Edited to add: Thanks for editing your original post. Now I understand!

I am asking for help with alternations. I have purchased several fitting books but so far, none of the alternations I have tried have worked.

First thing you need to do is make a mini mockup of a pattern top. Cut it out to just the notches in the armhole, and straight across. Stitch together at the shoulder seams, leaving the front open, put it on and post some photos. People really understand photos.

Then everyone can see what your exact issues are and can better assist you, especially if you can't find any fitting books that help.

There are quite a few of us who have a similar situation. Do you have Fit For Real People? I have narrow and somewhat rounded shoulders too. My right shoulder seems to be just a bit more forward than the left.

For the narrow shoulder: on the shoulder portion of your pattern, measure the amount to be removed(I take out an inch). Cut down 5 or 6 inches between the two marks. Then make a sharp turn and cut over to the armhole, leaving a hinge(the cut will look like an L). Back up at the top, bring one mark to the other and you will see the entire L move in to place. Tape down and true the seams. I like this method better than actually cutting the armhole.

As Miss Fairchild suggested, pictures help us a lot.
