My Google searches have only found me every other kind of nylon mesh and not what I'm looking for. It would probably help if I knew what this is actually called but alas, I'm at a loss.

It is commonly used for small bags like these:

Does anyone know what this type of mesh is called or where I can buy it online? This mesh has no stretch, it is quite strong, and the holes are extremely small, such that most pointy objects would not poke through.

My eternal thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction!

Oh, I just saw this mesh at Joann's yesterday. They had a tote bag made out of it with an oilcloth bottom and handles. I felt the mesh, which was very steardy, but did not look at what it was called. I like your idea of the zip top cosmetic bag size for taking to the beach.

Maybe try a home improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's) and look at window screening? It probably won't come in colors other than black or dark brown.

Go to The Rain Shed, click on "Fabric Swatches," Scroll down to #1278 "Netting and Mesh," and click that. There are several meshes there that will serve your purposes. One of the descriptions even says something like "for cosmetic bags."

You can order swatches of the complete group for a dollar or so. If you have questions, telephone them. They are really nice, helpful people.

I can't really tell from the tiny pictures, but that looks like organza, which is commonly used for cosmetic bags.

I've been keeping my eye out for this type of mesh for several years and haven't ever found it by the yard. The Phifertech that Rain Shed carries is also known as pet screen and is much coarser than that used for the small bags. Hope someone finds the real deal!

This place has an awful lot of kinds of mesh:
ahh

...though, like the others, possibly not the kind you're looking for. I haven't purchased from them except for samples.

This is pet screen, like what you can buy in a hardware store but in colors and is commonly used for totes. I have a mail order source where I placed a large order of different colors for my ASG group some years ago but can't access it right now. I'll look tomorrow and report back. If I forget, pm me ok?

I've never found the kind of mesh* used in those Walker zippered mesh bags you linked, so I continue to pay exorbitant prices for them. I enjoy them every day, marvel at how un-bulky they are and how well they keep clutter corraled in my purse. Worth every penny....but I wouldn't be opposed to finding a source for that mesh! BTW - those bags clean up beautifully in the washing machine. My 10-year old one still looks good.

*This stuff is very fine mesh, flexible, and see-through. It isn't stiff like the plastic mesh we can get for tote bags.
