Just curious, I can't find any info/feedback..

When you have the single stitch needle plate on, will the 8900 let you switch to a non straight stich like zig-zag and proceed to sew? Is there a fail safe mode you can activate to prevent this? For example, on my QE4, I can go into my menu and select a box that will NOT let my machine stitch any other stitch except a straight stitch. Also, if I shut my machine off with this feature activated, it remains on until I go on and remove it. This feature has saved many a needle....

How is the needle threader? I find on my QE4 that there are very few needle sizes that the threader works and it is usually necessary or just faster and easier to thread it manually than fight with the threader. (That could be more a fault with me than the machine - I am a bit "threader challenged". )

Does Janome have a couching foot that fits the 8900? How about an echo FM foot? Pfaff has echo foot with markings on it so you can outline a shape and keep your lines consistent. It looks really cool.

Just wondering...

Any other cool features??

For the 8900:

1) There is a couching foot available, but it looks like it does not come with the machine.

2) This machine comes with the convertible FMQ set, which has an echo foot.

3) The manual indicates there's a warning when the straight stitch plate is on. You'd have to ask someone who owns the machine if it stops you from selecting other stitches, though.

The feet you mentioned will work with the 8200 as well. Same thing. The FMQ set is standard, the couching foot you have to get separately. That machine's manual does not mention a warning about the straight stitch plate, however.

Janome's website can be difficult to navigate, but they do have their machines' manuals available free in PDF format. The manuals list the accessories that come with the machine and how to use them, so they're a good source of information.

When you install the single stitch needle plate, the machine does not allow you to select any stitch that could cause a needle break. You don't need to activate it, it happens automatically.

Oh yes, on my 8900 I also have to fight with the needle threader. It works but it requires patience. ;)

Thanks for posting on the needle threader.
I am finding I am not getting along well with the needle threader on my 8900 either.
Perhaps it's me, but the one on my little bernina 135 works first time.

I haven't had much time yet to play on my new machine due to Easter school hols. I am hoping there are a few knacks I need to learn on this machine and then I will be away.

I don't know if I can help with the needle threader but on my 6600 there is a little hook that you have to wrap the thread around to get it to work-mine works every time. I would not have been able to get it to work if the dealer had not shown me that little metal hook because I would have missed it. I saw these yesterday but didn't look that closely. They look like nice machines.
