I am a beginning knitter. When I make increases on socks with the make one right and left, I seem to leave a little hole. Is this correct? I am knitting the socks from the toe up.

That's not uncommon. You will get a bigger hole if you're not twisting the stitch as you knit it. Usually, the directions for M1L and M1R will have you twist it as you knit it but you might want to make sure that you are if the holes are very noticeable.

Thanks. The hole is not very big and I am twisting the stitch.

When you M1 (make one), be sure and knit in the BACK of the stitch after lifting the yarn onto the left hand needle - which twists the stitch. The increase should then be invisible.

Coincidentally, I just saw this on Ravelry. I haven't followed the link yet but sure seems on topic for your question

These are the most invisible increases I have found. Easy to execute, too!
