I bought some double faced (deep blue on one side, black on the other) nylon/rayon fabric from Fabric Mart with the intention of making some running shorts or tops or both! Well, it came today and it almost has no stretch...

I don't really understand how an activewear knit can be effective without a good amount of stretch. Any ideas of what I could make with it? I bought 3 yards 'cause it was dirt cheap ($1.80/yd) and it's 70" wide, so I have plenty of it...

I bought the same stuff, but I haven't done anything with it yet. I also bought another activewear knit to use as a lining. It also didn't stretch much and I was frustrated. I washed and dried it and when I pulled it out of the dryer it had 4 way stretch. Have you pre-washed this fabric? Maybe it will change its properties?

If it doesn't stretch much, you still could make slim leg pants or a skirt, just with a zip, and treat it like a woven.

I agree with Andi. If it doesn't have any stretch after washing, just treat it as a woven. It would require the extra ease, zippers, etc. anyway if it doesn't stretch.

ETA A jacket where the wrong side shows would be good to make with it. There are lots of patterns for those out right now. You could also make some pull on pants and colorblock some of the wrong side into them, like a running stripe.

Andi - I actually just got it yesterday at work and haven't gotten around to washing it yet. Good point to try washing it before I give up!

biochemistress - A jacket would be a great idea...especially if it doesn't end up with any stretch after washing.

Thank you!

I was going to suggest a hoodie. I have a couple from French terry where the stretch is minimal (although I wish they had a little more ease). :)

I got the same stuff. I noticed that it has slightly more stretch along the selvage. Still not very much stretch, but more than crosswise. I didn't know what to make with it either.

Jacket seems like a good idea.

I was thinking a sport skort and a sporty warm up type jacket. We shall see.
