I'm getting ready to buy a single needle machine. This machine will mainly be used with a binder foot and double fold binder attachment.

The binder attachment I will be using varies between 15/16th's to 1-1/8th inch (30mm) bias.

Here is a video of a Bernina machine that does exactly what I'm in need of.

The video shows a binder foot and a double fold binder attachment that will feed various sizes of bias tape through.

Do most single needle machines do this? I'm very new to this so I don't know which brands have the option for these attachments.

TIA

Most brands have models that can use the binder foot. Just be aware of the limitations. They can be very picky. My Bernina 430 could only handle highly starched cotton.

This is my understanding, as well. I inquired at my Viking dealer/quilt shop about the binder feet for my Emerald, and was told that I'd be better off putting my energy into perfecting my technique with regular feet, because the binder feet are so fussy.

You must do a LOT of binding, to need a machine exclusively for that! What do you make?

Check out Sailrite machines. They are heavy duty. Here's a link to the machines and there are also videos for using the binder on the website. Sailrite.

My friend has one for making purses and bags. She loves it.

Some of us were recently discussing how irritating the binding foot is on this thread

I found it interesting that they stopped filming on that video while they sewed the curve because that's when a binder foot doesn't work well.

Thank you Lord for my Mother who taught me the joy of sewing, for my Father who encouraged my sewing, for the talent You gave me to sew, and for all the special people in my life to sew for.

If you're doing swimwear, why not use a coverstitch binder?
I believe both Janome and babylock make that sort of thing.

The bernina binder is expensive, and the least expensive bernina machines don't have a pressure adjustment, making them hard to use on stretchy knits.

Thank you. Does this attachment only work on a cover stitch machine? Most of my designs are straight stitch and I was hoping I could use a twin needle to do a cover-stitch which you can see in this
mimic a coverstitch video

still trying to figure out how to use the quote function

I suppose you could look for a machine with attachment holes--the two holes to the right of the of the needle plate. Berninas have these. Industrial machines have these.

The typical binding foot looks like a zigzag foot that's missing it's right prong.
