Coming out later this year

I have been on the hunt for an economical digitizing software and had tried the Embird demo version. It was fine but I either have to work on our laptop or parition my Mac.

So, I wrote to the good folks at Embrilliance asking if they would consider coming out with a digitizing software similar to Embird but with the ability to be used in the Mac native platform. Much to my surprise, they replied that they were coming out with one "later this year".

This was very good news to me as a Mac user and it affected my purchase decision (decided to wait). I just thought that there may be others here on PR on the lookout for something like this.

Pfyodor will simply have to wait a little longer

Thanks for contacting Embrilliance and sharing the news with us. Do you know price? I'm wondering what economical is. The Pfonze (my Pfaff CP) can keep Pfyodor company in the waiting department. Not even sure if I'm ready either. I understand the learning curve is curvy and I'm still working through what Pfonzie can do all on his own. From what I can see at this point- a lot!

Q.Do you know what price? I'm wondering what economical is.

A. The basic Embird software is $164 and the Studio plug-in is $150. This will allow me most of the digitizing capability that I want. Photo stitching is an extra $90 if you want to make embroidery designs for photos.

Since I am still working with Pfyodor to learn what he can do, I decided to wait and see what the Embrilliance folks have to offer. At this point I have no idea what they will be charging but since they compete with Embird I am hoping it will be close.

Most proprietary software such as Pfaff, Bernina etc costs at least $1000. The full suite from Pfaff is closer to $2000. After paying for Pfyodor I don't have that many pennies left and truthfully I am doubtful I would get the use out of it. The $164 at Embird for a basic viewing and editing software for PC (no digitizing) or the $195 +/- for the Embrilliance (no digitizing at this price either) that works on either Mac or PC was very economical to me comparatively speaking.

On the plus side for Embird the $164 package allows you to split your designs and make them very large for the Grand Dream/Majestic Hoop. It is also $30 cheaper. The Embrilliance Essentials plus Thumbnailer, which I bought for $195 total, is a single purchase for up to two machines and they can be one Mac and one PC so I can use the Mac in my office or the laptop on the go. It all depends on your needs and the platform you will be using. It was worth the extra $30 to have the flexibility between platforms

I really like the idea of cost effective plug-ins so I can customize the software to suit my needs. For example I will probably use just the Studio Suite plus Basic from Embird should Embrilliance fail to impress.

I am sure they have good intentions. I was a beta tester with them back in 2009 when they first planned the digitizing software on Mac OSX. Still waiting. Still emailing. Still getting replies. They have had budget retraints the past few years. I do think it will happen. Will wait and see.

I'm glad you posted...

I hope it comes to be. :)

I have made some nice things already - and between the camera gizmo on the EG and the amount of resizing that the EG will do... I've been able to get around pretty well without any software - yet.

I do have some stuff in my head that I'd like to create someday - so I'm hoping to find something that might work on a Mac.

Otherwise, one of these days, I'm just gonna spring for a cheapie laptop at Costco and keep it just for my sewing stuff.

Actually Rip that's pretty much what I had to do, hence the laptop. I use EQ7 as well so I felt like I had no choice as most software for sewing/embroidery/quilting is made for PC. I hook the thing to my TV as the 'big' screen so I can see what I am doing, and all those tiny details in the embroidery that I make and use with quilts/garments.

I just prefer the Mac screen and I am more used to the environment I sincerely hope that Embrilliance really does come out with something. I can wait though. Pfyodor keeps me busy as he is. I am still figuring out how to use him!

Here's hoping!

Hey Dawn.....

You don't happen to know the Mac program that allows a person to flip through and view the embroidery designs just like is done with album cover art in iTunes?

I do run Fusion on my Mac and it is a 3 finger swipe between the Mac and Windows environment. It gives me full use of my laptop trackpad which is so much more fully featured than any PC trackpad. I can hardly use a mouse as it seems too cumbersome now.

I use Embrilliance Thumbnailer. It shows the designs like you are describing. Hope this helps!
