My mom just gave me her BabyLock Ellageo 3. It's a nice machine, but about 10 years old. It reads floppy disks and cards.

What do I need to download designs online and use them on my machine? Thinking a software program like Embrilliance, and then some type of writable card system to transfer them to, like PED Basic, but not sure. Have seen a lot of bad reviews on PED Basic. Thanks for any help.

I have the brother version and twin of the ellageo. You actually don't have to have anything if you have a floppy drive and a design in pes format if you have a pc. Someone else will have to help you with this and a mac. I actually keep an older pc for embroidery purposes as I have not updated any of my softwares either. I sometimes use a ped box and a card without problems on a computer that is running xp. Most of the older laptops and computers have usb ports for the box but many lack a floppy drive. I do have an external floppy drive so I have two ways to input designs. I figure as machines and computers age it is a good thing to have several ways of inputting designs. I can take my downloaded designs on a usb stick or an external drive or cd to the older dedicated computer to access when needed. It might not be for everyone but it lets me keep using the older machines and softwares I own. When I find a need I will rebuy software and a newer machine but for now this works for me. I am an occasional embroiderer these days and dabble so haven't felt a need to upgrade. My machines are all in excellent shape so for now I plan to keep using them.

Thanks so much - I do have an external floppy drive, so I will try that. I don't plan to do tons of embroidery, so don't want to purchase a new machine, and the Ellageo works like a charm. I do want to create my own designs in Illustrator, and then convert them to pes, so will probably need software for that.

People were having a problem with PED because they were not reading the instructions to not use in enclosed CD and to download the newer version from the Brother website for PC operating systems newer than xp.
