Hello! I'm so excited to find this website - this is my first post.

I'm currently sewing a party dress for my daughter's first birthday using the NEWLOOK 6879 pattern (doing it in size 1).. But am confused about the net ruffle part (which comes in at steps 33-34).

I have to cut 3 pieces of the netting each 25.5cm (or 10") wide but I'm not sure how long each piece needs to be.. This is exactly what the instructions say:

NET RUFFLE
54" (140cm)
Cut three 10" (25.5cm) strips across the width of the net.

So does this mean it is 3 pieces of 54"long and 10" wide strips?

Or is the three pieces together supposed to make up the total length of 54"?

I have done 3 pieces each 54"(140cm) long and sewn them together (as per instructions) and it just seems like a huge amount?! (Even though I know it will be smaller once ruffled)..

Hope this makes sense!!

"So does this mean it is 3 pieces of 54"long and 10" wide strips?"

yes, that's correct

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

Yes that is right. I have found that the amount of netting a pattern suggests is alot of netting so if you don't want the dress to be that poofy adjust the netting or if you want it more poofy you can probably add more.
