My scissors from 20 years ago are ready to be replaced. I happen to be a lefty, and have been told by professional sharpeners that my scissors can not be done by them as the blades are the wrong way around.

Between JoAnn's sale and Mother's Day on the 12th, I think it is time to get some good scissors.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I love Gingher scissors but they are never on sale... And I think you cannot use 40-50% coupons on them.

Kai scissors. I'd love to have a few more regular pairs in various sizes, plus some pinking shears, but, alas, I only have the 7250, the 10" "professional"shears. LOVE them. Love them more than I thought it possible to love scissors.

Ginghers. I have two pair and no desire to own any other kind. One pair is a good 25 years old or older and still as good as new.

Kai scissors are the only ones for me. Their web site I was introduced to them at a sewing expo in Michigan and am slowly accumulating several sizes.

Let's see Joann carries Gingher, Fiscars, Mundial (or is that one at Hancock?) and ??

I have several Gingher - all cut great, but if you have wrist/hand issues, they are *heavy*. Although they do have lighter ones now, bit I can't comment on those since I don't have any. They do go on sale on occasion. Or I used the 40% coupons on them also.

Fiscar - cut well, and are light weight. I'm pretty sure I saw one labeled for left-handers. I think they are even true-left hand scissors.

Mundial - I haven't gotten any of those, but they look like decent ones.

Somday a pair of Kai will join my herd, since so many who have them love them.

As far as not being able to get your current scissors sharpened, I can think of 2 things -
1. they might have tiny serrated edges and sharpening would ruin those
2. the sharpener runs them through a machine and doesn't know how to hand sharpen. If you really like the ones you have, try to find someone who does. It never hurts to have more than 1 pair, especially if you sometimes hide them from yourself. Like me

Mostly Ginghers, a couple pair of Kais, and a pair of buttonhole scissors made in Sheffield, England from Merchant and Mills. I think I may replace the Ginghers slowly with Kais as the years progress.
