I have a client who would like the dress below. Does anyone have suggestions/thoughts on what the pattern piece shape of the skirt is? In my spacially-challenged mind, I believe the skirt is a giant rectangle, but can't figure out the shape of the pattern piece to attach it to the bodice. (Hopefully the picture shows up!)

It looks more as if it's a wedge shaped rectangle, where the top edge is about four times the length of the bottom edge. You can test on the shape a dress form with a simple length of fabric as a rectangle to start with, and pin it onto the waist until you get the waterfall effect.

Thanks Debbie...can you possibly post a picture of what you mean? For a seamstress...it is awful that I am so challenged.....

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think you were right--it's a modified rectangle. Something like this, maybe:

I think it's just a square across the back from side seam to side seam. You can see a seam where the rectangle attaches to the side seam on the right side (looking at picture). Thanks for the visual!
