I picked up a White jeans machine 1599 at the flea market. If it works okay after some tweaking it's going to be a friend's new machine. It came with a manual copy, and when I check out Singer's web page it lists the same manual. But the manual isn't right for this machine. The top is supposed to flip up, which holds the thread and part of the threading setup. This machine doesn't do this, the top is held on with screws and covers the mechanical parts. I guessed the threading setup and I think it's right, but the foot doesn't go down far enough. It looks the it's still slightly elevated. When I find my sewing stuff(we just moved) I''m going to use some of my own feet on it. The accessory box for the flat arm is awol, but that is the only missing item. The machine uses snap on feet. I've googled the machine and searched on pattern review and gotten very little info on this machine. Any help, links etc would be appreciated.

Do you have the feed dogs up on the machine to make contact with the presser foot? On older machines the grease can dry up not allowing the foot to go all the way down. I had this happen on my pfaff and had to bring it in for that. I first tried cleaning and oiling the shaft and giving it movement, I would try that first.
The model? What number's are actually on the machine itself? Either on the front or maybe a tag in the back. It sounds like you have a different manual for the machine.....curious?

Could this be the manual?

I also had one of these machines and had to download the manual, (free) it was actually the one in the picture with the lift up top cover.

Is the model no. on the machine 1599?

The tag on the machine reads model number 1599, serial number 21590 if that make a difference. I think the feed dogs are all the way, but I'm going to try again. Yep, the feed dogs are all the way up, and the presser foot lever is all the way down. I did oil some of the machine and just added some oil to the feed dog levers. I'm going to put a seperate post with pictures to see if that helps folks help me figure it out.

Okay here are some pictures of the mystery machine issues. Front view of the machine. The gap between the feed dogs and the foot, with the feed dogs all the way up and the presser foot all the way down. And the serial number tag on the back. Hopefully this will give someone some clues. The manual is for a similiar machine, but the threading is different, which is giving me conniptions. As always, and ideas or suggestions are much appreciated.

Maybe that foot doesn't go with that machine and the one that does would be where it's supposed to be. (just a thought).

There probably is something wrong with the ankle the foot clips onto, or your pressure foot bar, not going down all the way. It does look like it's supposed to be a low shank machine. But, if you can't see that and fix that yourself though, one way to cheat around that, and get the pressure foot down a bit and a foot closer to and actually onto your feed dogs, might be to just forget about the clip on ankle and feet and put a "high shank" zig zag slotted foot, bolted onto to it instead. That little bit extra on there, in between the bolt hole and the bottom of the foot, probably would cover the "distance of that space" there. And then you could probably sew. Either that or figure out what's wrong and maybe actually drop your pressure foot bar a bit until the same thing happens.

That looks very similar to mine, they probably just tweaked some of the outer features without changing the machine so kept it as the 1599.
That is quite a gap, wondering if the shaft is bent or if you could adjust the presser foot pressure.
As friend has mine so can't refer to it. Are you able to sew at all with it?

Here is a link to the manual in pdf format.
The machine looks to have many oiling points on the inside top of the machine and the needle shaft. I still think it might be bound up some place in the shaft. It does show the flip up top unless like the previous poster stated they changed it some and kept the same model number, not a good thing, it would sure make me wonder.
