My DD works as a research scientist at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago. She works with the great apes, mostly gorillas and chimpanzees. The following was posted about their work:

If you watch the video, my DD is the shorter lady with the dark hair.

Hi. I just watched it and saw your daughter. It was an interesting story about the study. Bert

To work in a zoo that would be a dream job for me. I applied for an accounting position at our local zoo but didn't get it. The zoo's offices are right in the zoo. Even if I couldn't work with animals I could have had lunch with the polar bears.

Thanks, everyone. It is her dream job, she says she is happy to go to work every day.

At some point she is going to have to go back to graduate school to do her PhD, but for now she is very happy.

Well, since there was so much interest in DD's job, I can share another video from the news.

At the zoo last fall there were two gorilla babies born, in October, Bana gave birth to Patty, and in November Rollie gave birth to Nayembi. DD and the rest of the staff got to see her being born which is very unusual as generally the moms deliver overnight.

Unfortunately, when Nayembi was about three months old she sustained some truly appalling facial injuries. This was an accident, not an attack, and by great good luck the vets were in the building at the time. They whisked the baby into surgery immediately, and when you look at her you can hardly tell where she was hurt.

It has taken quite a while for her to heal, as the new skin is very delicate, and now they are slowly reintroducing her back to her family.

The man who talks on camera, Steve Ross, is my DD's direct boss. He is not in charge of her care, that is up to the vets and the keepers. The lady, Maureen Leahy, is the Curator of Primates, with overall charge of all of the primates, large and small.

This has been a major part of life in that building for several months now, and everyone is so pleased at how well little Nayembi is doing.
