Sharing and asking for ideas. I am extremely nearsighted. So nearsighted that my vision cannot be corrected with laser surgery. Now, I have lost most of my vision in my left eye. My right eye is correctable to 20/20. At this point I can still drive safely. If my poor vision become worse and I cannot drive, I would no longer be able to work where I work as driving is a condition of employment.

I have decided to de-clutter my sewing life and concentrate on only the most important, like quilts for my loved ones. I want to finish projects that I have in the works.

I think I am still in shock as to what is happening with my eyesight. I am sorry to say I don't even know what it is called. I have experienced Wet Myopic Macular Degeneration in the past and thought that's what was happening when my sight was becoming distorted again.

The thought of not being able to sew and match colors and all that goes along with our hobby is extremely sad for me.

I don't mean to bring anyone down, but if any of you have loved ones who have experiences with loss of eye sight and have tips I would be happy to get suggestions. Yes, I got a second opnion, and the digonoise was the same. Also, I am in my early 50's.

Oh, that is awful news. Is there any option for transplant? I rely on my eyes so much for the things I enjoy. I can't imagine being unable to read or do creative work. I hope you are able to get this condition stabilized so you keep what vision you do have. (((((hugs))))))

I have had several friends and relatives who suffered from serious vision loss, some of whom received procedures or special vision aids that made things better.

Could you possibly find and copy the name of your condition? It would help a lot to know what you are dealing with and what the prognosis is.

Sew Cool.. you have my sympathy.. and even my empathy..

Its quite a shock to us....especially those who always had good health... when we start the aging process.. You can bet anything you did in your youth will come back to haunt you.. along with things you never even knew about.. I have floaters in my eyes now.. never even knew there were such things as floaters..
I spend almost as much time searching out and researching issues regarding health as I do on PR..
Then I just accept what I cannot change and adjust and move on..
These last two or three years has me seriously thinking of seriously downsizing.. A smaller home.. a smaller yard.. less pets and less crap..er.. stuff..
I have noticed every year when I spring clean now I put away and purge more and more .. And it takes me longer and longer to do anything.
However, strangely enough... I am almost looking forward to our retirement years..

I am so sorry! I hope you update us on how you are doing, and if any medical intervention is called for.

Hugs for you
PR people are the most supportive people. I am sure there will be people who can give support and advice as you move through this life change.

I agree with you plan to sew the things you want to sew. While you are at it make a yummy quilt for yourself also.

This is sad news. BUT they are coming up with new procedures all the time. So I'm going to continue to send good vibes your way.

My Grandmother had Macular Degeneration(I don't know if it was wet or dry). She didn't do handwork, sewing or crafts, but loved to read. As her condition progressed, we were able to find her books with larger print. Grandma didn't start having a problem with her eyes until she was in her 70's.

I'm not sure where I read it, but there is a post on here about a young woman who is blind and sew with the assistance of her Mom. I'm amazed at the strength of the human spirit. Keep us posted on your journey.

And as a side note: I'm all for a third opinion. There has got to be a doc out there who is on the cutting edge of this type of thing.

Second opinions are great, but do your own research, including investigating specialists all over the country, and stay on top of medical research related to your condition - things change from month to month, and, sadly, even some of the best doctors don't (or can't) stay current about everything, especially research that hasn't hit mainstream medicine.

And don't ignore the possibility of a therapist; there are many who specialize in medical issues, and who can help you look at options and accommodations.

I am so sorry this is happening to you. thankgoodness it is just the one eye.
It is scarry to think about. Declutter is a great idea. Free's up your mind and lets you move forward anyway that is what it did for me.

Poorpigling, I have a huge floater...it has been driving me nuts for about a year now, eye dotocr said my brain will start compensating for it evenutally. It has to some extent but I can still see it if sky is gray. It is very distracting.

For me.. the brighter the light.. the more I notice my floaters.. mostly outside in bright light. but also on the computer .. its why I am not spending as much time as I did on the computer now..
