I scored 2 yards of black wool gauze while in San Francisco at PR Weekend. I know Sandra Betzina mentioned it in her presentation but I missed the details. Does anyone here know what she said? Or, has anyone used this lovely fabric and what did you make? Share please :-)

Pam at Off The Cuff posted about making a shirt for a customer of it in February.

I've never used it, but wool gauze sound lucious - where did you get it?

If you lined it you could make a full skirt with it. Nothing too fitted.

I'm one of the 3 lucky ones who shared that yardage with you. I hope someone recalls what Sandra said, cause I don't. She packed so much in and this got by me.

Years ago, I made a wool voile dress that's very close to this black cloth for weight, drape and sheerness. The dress was quite loose and I scrunched it in with a soft belt- the easy folds of cloths fell beautifully without fussing. I could throw it on. I used details to play on the sheer- I made spaced 1/4" tucks, so the fabric tripled up and then went to 1 layer in between each tuck. I kinda placed them where I liked them almost as stripes. I finished with french seams. Other than that I did the most basic style lines- not many, and let the sheer beauty be the thing. I made a simple slip to go with.

At some point, I'll pin the gauze on myself and walk around in it to see if it has that enchanting billowy movement. Drape it over my shoulders, use my dress form, etc. until I get the feel of what it wants to do. Looking forward to what other posters will say.

I made a really simple Miyake inspired dress that was quick to sew and had a really dramatic look. wool gauze dress

For a schematic for the dressdiagram of the dress

I ought to wear the dress more often. I always feel elegant in it.

I bought some navy wool gauze (Fabric Mart, I think) that turned out to be quite scratchy. Wool doesn't usually bother my skin, but this one is too rough, it must be lined... so I'm eager for any ideas. Sarah, I love your draped dress, and may try it with some other soft fabric in my stash (won't work with my gauze).

oh, thank you everyone! I knew i could count on PR to help me. What a day...I'm sorry to post and run this am but my husband walked in and said "Do you want to go buy some new bedroom furniture?"

uh, yeah!

So, the wool gauze needs a design that is floaty or drapey. I like A or B for a coverup:

or this one, also A or B

Justgail, I got it at Stonemountain and daughters.
Wendy, I wonder what you will make...keep me posted. Elona, thanks so much for the info! Nancy K, a skirt sounds pretty-I'd like to add sequins or cording :-) Sarah, love your schematic!! Margasweet, navy gauze...yummy.

I think the comfort level may depend on the quality of the wool crepe. I had gotten mine in the half price room of Paron .
I know that Rosen and Chadwick has some as well. I did need to wear a full slip and be sure my skin was well moisturized.
