I want a simple, basic, reliable, easy-to-thread, 4-thread serger with differential feed that is no more than $300.00. I use a serger almost solely for finishing seams, i.e., the overlock stitch; any capability beyond this is gravy.

(My current serger is an Elna 704DX - many problems; hate it - which has been in the shop for a month waiting for an apparently non-existent part, so no more Elnas!)

Babylock Lauren? Another? Thanks for any real-world experience and information!

I started with a Brother 1034. It is closer to $200. It was easy to use and a workhorse. I traded it in for an Elna combo machine (so sorry you are having trouble with your Elna). There is at least one thread devoted to the Brother.
