I am working my way through a men's jeans pattern, Kwik Sew K3504. This is the first thing I have tried to sew without my sewing teacher's help. (The other project I am working on with her is a shirt.)

I am almost finished with my project but am stuck on the the part where you fold over the waistband on the jeans. I don't know if anyone is familiar with this pattern but I am on step 14, where the illustration shows the waistband is folded over, wrong side out, and then then the ends of the waistband near the zipper I am supposed to put some stitches parallel to the zipper. (I already have one edge of the waistband attached to the pants.)

What confuses me is the next illustration where the instructions read "Turn ends of waistband right side out and press. Fold under free edge of waistband and pin to waist seam, covering stiches." The picture shows the waistband is now showing the right side facing out, but I don't know how to get it from wrong side out to right side out. I don't see how I can flip it around if I have sewn vertical stitches at the ends... it seems like that sort of makes it impossible to reverse?

I guess I can just ask my sewing teacher for help on this but I am trying to sew these jeans on my own without her help just to prove that I can do it.

If anyone knows of a website or blog post about how to attach a waistband to jeans, that might help me. Thanks.

I assume your waistband is one long piece. If I am understanding the set-up correctly, you need to pin the right side of the waistband to the wrong side of the jeans and stitch from center front to center front. Next, fold the waistband right sides together at the center front. This is where you will stitch a short line that is parallel to the zipper. Trim the seam and clip the corner. At this point, you should be able to orient the waistband so that you can fold it lengthwise over the waist seam. Does this make sense? =)

Here are some references from which to choose for additional help:

* my blog post about how I attach a jeans waistband using the instructions for Jalie 2908

* Peter hosted a jeans sew along some time ago. He's quite talented and writes very informative posts.

* Brian has made several pairs of jeans and may have some info for you.

* compilation of tips & tricks from a jeans sew along here on PR

I hope this helps.

Thanks. Yep, it turned out my jeans worked just like the ones on your blog.

My problem was that I was just looking at the pattern instructions and trying to mentally visualize how it would work and I couldn't understand it. Once I actually stitched it and folded it over the top it worked perfectly. No trouble at all.

I guess I was just afraid of accidentally doing the wrong thing. LOL, I spent two days looking at the instructions and trying to imagine how it must work.

great looking jeans but I think I would have used medium gray topstitching thread with the white denim. Just a personal choice. Watching these steps made me re think how to put together a pair of denim pants for my daughter. visit the site http://www.tidebuy.com/c/Pants-100042/
