I have a cute vintage dress pattern with a pleated skirt, but it is too big in the waist. (Simplicity 3077, view 3). How do I change the pleat pattern to fit me? The pleats are different sizes and some are box pleats. They are also designed to hide the side seams and also the center back seam. There is a lapped zipper and the pleats need to stay the same there.

I hope I am making sense. How do I fix this without screwing up the design of the pleats?

Well, I would do it like they do kilts. Check it out on-line somewhere, but the long and short of it is, that you work from where it fits on your hips and just ease the top of each pleat over a bit until it reduces to an acceptable (to you) waist measurement.
I would probably sew that bit of the pleat down. i.e. the bit between the waist and the hip.

If you know exactly how much you need to reduce the waist, you can divide that number evenly. Then you can reduce each skirt panel before you cut. You will have to redraw the pleat lines on the fabric. The other thing to do is to keep the fabric as it is and just make each pleat a little deeper to fit the waist. If the difference is large, I would fix it before cutting.
