My old 830 has been at the shop for 3 weeks. Yes very sad. Finally today I call wondering what the problem is. 2 weeks ago they said the part on the feed dog assembly, it is plastic, is broken they would have to get it from Bernina, it would be 2 weeks. Forgive me I have forgotten the correct name of the part. The machine had not been feeding fabric that is why I took it in. Well they now say Bernina no longer makes the part! They want me to trade it in for something else. Does this sound right? It is too late now for me to call Bernina. I have been searching for a second machine to no avail, but now that I am not even getting my sturdy 830 back, very sad. Any experts out there on old Bernina's and their parts?

If you enjoy your 830 I would try to find the part you need. Many Bernina dealers keep older machines just for the parts and you can also buy parts on the web, ex. eBay. I would request that the dealer you brought your machine to give you Bernina's part number and description so you can try to find it. It sounds like your dealer didn't make much of an attempt to even find a replacement part. The 830 is one sweet little machine.
I am not sure if I would even trust that dealer if they immediately wanted you to trade in your machine. JMHO

Try sewing machine parts online. I purchased a part for my old Bernina serger from them. If you know what part you need, they might be able to help.

I highly recommend that you join the free yahoo group BerninaThirtySomethings. Do not let the repair shop keep your machine. If they can't get the part, I'm sure someone can, if not from Bernina, then from an aftermarket parts source, or a donor machine.

Thanks Maia. I did join the group today. I am going to call tomorrow and ask about the part number and see where it goes. If they don't want to give me that I will ask for my machine back with broken part, then find someone that will fix it. Not sure I totally trust them but I'll see what they say. I do want my machine back!

I dunno nuthin' about these machines, but just having a dealer wanting me to trade it in would make me very skeptical!

Things that make you say "Hmmmmmmm..."

I called this morning, the part is called the Feed Follower Eccentric, if anyone knows of any person or place that may have one, can you let me know? I really want to keep this machine.

Thanks!

The 830s are great machines. You may want to look on ebay for ones listed as non-working, because you can get them cheaper than a new part from Bernina would have cost.
I would check around with other repair shops in your area, beacuse I'd bet SOMEONE has a donor machine on hand.

I think I found one! In Long Beach, which is about 25 miles away. If it is the right part, I will go pick it up and deliver so I can get my machine back. Darn I wish there were more repair places around. I don't like that the 2 that are close, I have had issues with both! Aggravating.

Thanks all for letting me vent. Hope to be sewing soon!
