So I just uncovered my grandmothers singer 191B. My mother had kept it under lock and key pretty much because it belonged to mt grandmother who died when my mother was young. Anyway now it's mine!

It's a great machine, was very dusty and a little loud so I opened what I could (it's cast for the most part with holes for oiling) oiled and dusted it. Same with the motor.

Anyway, it seems like there's not much info out there about these, so if you know anything, especially wher with could get a Manual, I checked singers manual lookup, nothing!

So if anyone knows anything about it, it would be great, I'd love to learn more about it, thanks!

Only that it's probably really nice and here is your book:

So just keep it and use it to make a bunch of neat stuff.

I have a 191J, but my manual is in Japanese. I think it's a great machine, nice stitch, quiet. Mine has the little foldout extension table.

It's essentially a class 15 straight stitcher with an updated body casting. The "B" means it was made in Singer's factory in Bonnieres, France. They were also made in Kilbowie, and in Canada, but regardless, are all the same.

Hello all,

It may be a bit late to add to this thread but here goes and I hope you can help.

My friend is trying to find a part for her old sewing machine it is a Singer 191B, she is looking for the 'foot plate' that goes with the 'Swiss zigzagger 160991' (I have been told this is the needle part). She brought the machine in the Netherlands but I understand they were universally made in France.

Does any one have any idea where I can get the footplate from, I am in the U.K .

Thank you all for your time,

Chris
