I'd like to find a good video on how to add pockets. I can make a welt pocket, but what I would like to add to my pants are slash pockets or jean pockets. Surefit has a video that shows a little but then states the full info is on the men's pants kit. I won't ever make men's pants, so I don't want to buy that just to figure out a pocket.

I know they can't be that hard, but before I cut into the top of my pants - I'd like to know I'm doing it right.

For the slash pockets, it appears they need 3 parts. The main front part of the pant which you would have to cut. How much and at what angle so they lie flat?

then you need 2 other pieces.

one that is the shape of the top of the pant before you cut it and one more small piece that lines up with the cut piece. Not sure how big to cut those.

Then I need the order of construction. This is what I think it is:
you sew one pocket piece to the front of the pants and then turn it to the inside and topstitch. Then take the other cut piece and sew it behind that? that's where I get goofed up. Is that part of the pocket and how or where do I attach.

Peggy Sagers did a short video on adding a pocket to yoga pants, and it was exactly what I was looking for, but I didn't have a way to record the segment and can't find it online anywhere. It was on itsseweasytv episode 308 just last week here on Chicago PBS. I emailed PBS to see if they would have it online but they never returned my email. the other segments ARE available - just not the one I want..

Emailing PS is futile. I've tried that. She never responds, so I won't waste my time trying. I do have her yoga pant pattern so I'll look there but I don't think the pocket directions are on there.

I always seem to get tripped up on the simple stuff. I guess I've had way too many failures, so I like to get it close to right before I start. A large part of me just wants to give up sewing altogether and join the quilting group. I hear their motto is "never found a quilt that didn't fit'.

Have you tried searching for other videos on YouTube?

It's my go-to reference when I need help.

Hi Avatar - maybe this website might help.

Thank you,

I think this may do it. My only question, and I'll have to look at this again, is how do you know how much to cut off the main piece since I'm doing this from scratch and will have to design the pocket inset part.
