Here are the jeans, am looking for an embroidery design that lends itself to this kind of application, specifically looking for a border design that shows a lot of ground area and resembles the one on these jeans.

This garment costs as much as an entry level embroidery machine.

If you already have an embroidery machine you will be able to find vines on the Internet and then repeat them.

I did something similar with a design that was included with my embroidery machine. The larger the embroidery area (hoop size)of the machine the fewer re-hooping you will need to do.

Right? If I make 4 of these it will pay for my embroidery machine.

I plan on using my embroidery machine, I think the problem is that I am trying to get to almost the exact design. The flowers and leaves have open areas that let the fabric show through, and most of the designs I have found have very dense stitching which doesn't allow this or they are lace, which doesn't read the same. This would be my first large project and I wanted to save myself from having to create the design from scratch.

Have you looked at Kreations by Kara? Many of her designs are more open, like this one.

The description of it would be more a floral and vine design, made all with satin stitches (to look more hand done and not like a machine made logo on someone's golf shirt) and some running straight stitch, and just about no just flat fills, if that would help any. And I don't think it was made in particular to be a border design, but instead some more random floral pattern and what they did instead, was to just take one of them, add the second one in, and just flip and rotate the second same one, more to interlock into there with the first, and just keep repeating that.

I got lots of embroidery designs from all over, and lots of ones that could sort of look like that one and those on the pants, but not any of them, exactly the one they probably had at all. But you are going for general feel as would have to, not finding their exact digital file at all. Also with lots I have I could edit and piece more together to get anything I wanted too. But some I have that, would work fine for it are :

Anita Goodesigns, Urban Boho pack has got some stuff you could work with in there:

http://www.anitagoodesignonline.com/urban-boho/

Also one I got once as a freebie, that now you have to pay for over on the Viking embroidery design web site here:

http://www.myembroideries.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?urlRequestType=Base&catalogId=10001&categoryId=10281&productId=58777&errorViewName=ProductDisplayErrorView&urlLangId=-1&langId=-1&top_category=10112&parent_category_rn=10112&storeId=10001#.UZ_qP9j-LxU

That one is from a Viking set, but you can buy just the one design. It's supposed to be for "thread art" where they have several layers of satin stitch over the roses and they think you are going to cut some to make it fluffy there, but you would not have to at all, and instead all that extra satin stitch on top of it's self, even left uncut would just make it look a bit more padded and even stand up better. If using that one, I would take it once, then flip and rotate it the next time though, all down the legs of those pants to more make it a bit random and interlocked in better.

Also you probably don't want your pants to look exactly like hers, anyways, just because then it would be something you could just buy instead.

If you instead wanted to really try to find their exact digital embroidery file, you might never find it, or maybe they even made it up themselves, but if wanting to try to look for it, or a combination of ones, I think I would look though all the really old Gungold digitized ones over here:

http://www.gonutsgocreative.com/gunold/section_detail.asp?section=GUNOLD%AE+Floral

And just maybe look though floral in there. Gungold has been around so long, and so many people and factories have even used them for decades, you might even find that exact one in there. Also just tons of Home sewing embroideries sold as Viking and even Pfaff all really came from Gungold and had just matching ones just marketed and labeled different for just years, lots of duplicates have been sold both ways too. If looking in there and actually trying to find it, in case it really was a Gungold one, try maybe florals or such in there, but a whole bunch in there to even look though if trying to do that. But it does "look a bit" Gungold-ish to me.

Thank you beauturbo and lkmbpk - the reality is that I'm so new to embroidery designs I wasn't sure where to look, am grateful for the new sources.

I don't have to have the exact design as you say, beauturbo, then it would be the same as buying them, although that wouldn't be such a bad thing if I could match them exactly Just wanted a design that had those open elements with the flower and leaves. I have been looking at my textile books for inspiration, I might try my hand at designing my own for now. So it will be a great big adventure, and a bit more complicated but we all have to start somewhere.

I like to suggest to visit sewing machine sites that sell embroidery designs for their large hoop embroidery machines.

If you are willing to use a different embroidery design and tell us the size and format you are looking for, maybe there are large freebies available too.

Here a Bernina freebie in art format, one can repeat the design and change the colors. Here is another freebie in pes format one can repeat and change the colors.Or maybe you can find freebies you like here and at side bar too.

I'm going to start a list with all of the embroidery links you all have given me. In the meantime, I have the Bernina embroidery and have drawn out a design. If digitizing doesn't go well, I'll start looking on the sites.

Here's the direction I'm taking, tomorrow I'll have to turn it into a vector image and see how I do digitizing.
