A couple years ago a friend gave me her Elna Lock Pro 5DC serger, she'd received it from someone else and knew she'd never use it, and knew I'd been wanting to try my hand at serging. It looked very overwhelming, plus no manual, so I put it away and just took it out now to try to figure the darn thing out. Purchased a manual, everything's threaded fine -- but no "presser foot A," (# 396001-11) which I assume is the standard foot used for most overlock stitching. Looking online they are going for no less than $50, and I'd rather not pay that if I can help it. Does anyone know where I might find one for cheaper, *or* if old Elna models are compatible with any other brands when it comes to accessories?

Maybe you are not missing anything. Instead, if you look at the pressure foot, at the rear of it, I think it has a little pushable switch on it there, the switch pushed in one direction is A and pushed the other way is B. Maybe check your one and only foot out and see if instead it is like that hopefully.

Thank you for your reply! I wish that were the case, but no.On this machine the letters are stamped into the metal on the feet -- "B" is the one I have, which is the rolled hem foot. I'm thinking of trying to purchase their "multipurpose" foot (it's only about $16, I think), I see it can be used to insert elastic and the like, but could I also just use it for overlocking?
