I would love to make a ponte skirt with a front panel in a mirror print fabric - I have seen the images all over; anyone know where I can find some North American yardage? The only place I've seen it is on Tessuti Fabrics in Australia Thanks!

Ooooo. I just decided what I want to do with some of my dyeing silk. :)

It's just fabric; we can out-think it.

Have you considered tiedying the fabric yourself?
We used to do it in the 60's and I am sure you could find a book or tutorial.
I have a couple of books.
PM me if you want to.

Some large geometric style prints, that do not look like that at all, as is on the bolt, and if not just going in one direction, if your dress had a center front seam and cut on the bias of them, would actually turn into mirrored image fabric much like some of those dress.

Also you could do something much the same with a border print, particular if printed on both sides of the fabric, and using it diffrenent ways there, as then one border might already even be flipped and reversed from the other one.

And some of those I think are a large repeating print in a stripe kind of pattern fabric and they have just cut them out in the best of ways to just capture part of that on the front or sides of the item.

I do see fabrics like those even at Joann's and Hancocks big chain brick and mortar fabric stores often, or ones that could turn into some of those.

Most of these types of prints are montages that are mirrored; not an abstract tie-dye image. I have thought of seaming another fabric, but haven't seen any large repeat prints with a similar look and feel. If it's in RTW, you would think the fabric could be bought!! :)

I have seen something like this recently but can't remember where. I think I was trolling through stretch fabric sites, lyrcra/spandex stuff, maybe got there from a recent PR comment about best fabric for 'body con' dresses and she had a web site of fabrics, maybe?

Have you looked at Spoonflower?

If you want it off the internet, not in person, try another search term, something like "polyester sublimation print fabric" as for some of those, (as that is how I think some of them got that way) and I think that might be a better and more common name for it that "mirrored" even if just those ones ended up being more mirrored in their particular graphics.

The other thing you might be able to do, is if you have any large chain discount clothing stores in Canada, where they might have some very large ladies dresses for only $14 or $16 each, (they do here in Ross and Marshall Discount Stores in the USA) you could buy buy one or two of them and cut them up, just since I see that kind of "polyester sublimation print " fabrics (and even mirrored graphics) in the graphics in dresses even in those stores often. Fabric is just sort of where ever you find it sometimes, if you like it enough.

Polyester sublimation printed fabric is not Pucci silk or such but at the same time if you look at all the designers whom are selling stuff like that, (and even for huge prices) I think they are using polyester a whole lot too, just since it can be dyed that way so easy.
