As a new-ish quilter, I wanted a Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR) but didn't want/need a new machine. After test driving several machines including 550, 530, and 710 I couldn't understand all the hype about these very expensive machines. And then yesterday I was at the Bernina dealer when somebody was picking up her gently used 440QE which she had serviced in order to put up for sale. She let me take and test drive on her machine and the hair on my arms stood up... it was like that scene from "Harry Potter" when his magic wand found him. This machine is so quiet and smooth... it runs like melted butter that I paid cash on the spot! After finding the right machine I finally get the Bernina hype.

I would not call it hype. I would call it love. Glad you found a machine you like and that sings to you to come sew. Keep us posted on your projects and if you can post pictures, we'd love to see them.

I am a Quilter at heart. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Recently I have discovered I enjoy doing applique. I love making pictures. Using a sewing machine is much easier than counted cross stitch or oil painting for me. I enjoy landscape quilting as well. I am working on my first applique project in the spring of 2014.

Congratulations on finding your perfect machine! I think Bernina's 4 Series and 6 Series machines are classic and positively unbeatable.

I know exactly what you mean! And it's still that way when I sit down to my machines.

So glad you found the right machine for you! The auroras are beautiful machines, I just love the feel of mine. I love my 820 and 750 as well and they all sound and feel different with different systems. There is a freedom for fmq that comes with the design of their machines, it feels unencumbered and unrestrained, in every way- no drag anywhere. Bliss!
