Now that I have Sophie, my 8 month old lab who loves to play in the water, we're considering renting a cottage on a lake that will allow you to take your dog. I'd like to go in September after the kids are back in school so it's quiet and not as crowded but still warm in the daytime and cool at night to sit around a campfire. Does anyone know where there's a nice lake in Pennsylvania or West Virginia? I would also love if you could rent a boat or pontoon. Any suggestions?

I think it's wonderful that you are going to vacation with your pet. We've always done that, but at the beach. I don't know of any specific places/rentals in the area that you are looking, but I did want to offer two suggestions if you do go with your dog.
It's happened to us several times in the years we've taken our dogs on vacation--an unexpected trip to the vet. Especially if you are going to a place where there may be snakes or spiders, etc.. So, be sure to know where a local vet is, and definitely remember to take your proof of vaccinations--it's always the first thing they ask for and in an emergency, could save some time from having them have to call your home vet for verification.
Also, take a picture of your dog. This didn't happen to me but to a relative--their dog got lost in the woods on their vacation. They got him back, but said that if they'd had a photo with them, it would have been easier.
Hope this helps a little. Good luck and have fun.
