I finished my muslin of Butterick 5710. I made a straight size 14. I plan to make the final in wool crepe with china silk lining. Any fitting recommendations would be appreicated.

I think you need to shorten the darts in the front to put them down below your bust apex. Also, it's hard to tell...the bubble in the back may disappear when you give yourself more room through the hip, but it may also be that you have excess length above the waist in the back.

Have you tried to sit in this trial garment? It looks tight across the tummy and hips. Can you let out the seams? What size seam allowances did you give yourself in this test dress? For most test garments, I make the seams 1 inch and not the standard 5/8 inch, so I let things out if needed---and it is often needed!

The style suits you well, I think, but there a few issues with the fit. I agree with the last commenter - the dress is too tight across waist and around bust area - there is a lot of pulling going there. You need to go at least one size up in the bust area and one or two sizes around waist. It also helps to try on the test garment in the same undergarments you are planning to wear with this dress: the bra or any shape wear. Once you got the measurements right you can see what other fit issues you need to address, I bet most of the 'bubbling' will be gone once you got the circumferences right. Good luck :)

Thank you for your help. This is my first completely bias cut item and I just wasn't certain what to do for ease. I unfortunately bought the 8 to 14 envelope so I will just go ahead and add to the side seams.

Don't forget to shorten those darts and make a second muslin.

Just wanted to add, I'm not sure that going up a size would have been an improvement. I think the muslin looks like it fits you across the shoulders and upper back.

It looks like it fits in the shoulders and upper back pretty good.

I clicked on her pictures and enlarged them and used the image button to show them. Hope this works so we can help more.

I left a message on your blog with my fitting ideas. It is only in regards to the back. You can see the diagonal wrinkles pointing to your bust on the front. You need a larger size in my opinion also.

Use one inch seams when sewing bias.
