I just purchased my first serger, an older Elna Lock Pro 4 DE with 3 boxes of Maxithreads for $150.I am exploring the machine and parts as well as cleaning it a bit. I hope to be operational later today. Just getting an overview in the instruction manual. Husband could not give much info since his wife passed away.
I hope I made a good investment for a first try at serging. I guess everyone starts somewhere! I am hesitant to plunge into any big expense on a new one. Not much info out there on this machine. I wondered if anyone was familiar with it's "reputation"! Thanks, Peddles

Just spent 2 hours cleaning up my little Elna serger. She is a little beauty...extra nice metal & pastic exterior with no yellowing at all. I read my manual and threaded it for a flat lock seam. It took about 6 attempts after checking and rechecking the thread guides to figure out why the needle thread kept breaking. Checked all the settings to no avail. I almost gave up after a half hour and then I had a good laugh. Felt great even though I felt like an idiot. I forgot to raise the thread pole!!! Ahhum, only here wiould I ever admit to such a tale. My first one was inexpensive. You may a good choice. It will be fun to get your feet wet with serging. Who knows? You may be so happy with it that you won't be looking at anything more expensive.

This gave me a chuckle, been there! It's good to have a laugh after so much effort and frustration especially

Happy serging

Guess it's the learning curve that is the great equalizer for the novice and the expert. We've all been there at some point. Yes, I hope to have fun with this if I keep my frustration levels in check
I guess that is why chocolate or a favorite sweet candy should always be handy!
