Happy anniversary.

My darling daughter turned 20 and my darling mare turned 18 yesterday on what would also have been my grandmother's 104th birthday.

On June 15 we'll have been in our current house for 22 years.

Today I gave my flowers their first drink since Monday. So this evening we get a downpour. Oh well. Back to weeding.

I pulled every scrap of grass out of my flower beds last year. Judging from the state of said beds this year I only loosened the soil and encouraged the grass. Ditto the dandelions.

I am considering TNT.

We are supposed to have weather in the 70s all week...unusual for us for June. I need to plant sugar snap peas, beans and pumpkins. And weed the street side flower beds. Our property is just over 130' along the street so it's a lot of weeding and it WA sadly neglected last year.

We're hanging in the low sixties here. The big gardening problem here is the wind and drought. Water is so expensive that I'm gradually going to xeroscaping.

I'd dearly love to grow roses. There are rose gardens in town but up here at the foot of the mountain the cold dry winds of winter are death on most varieties and the winter hardy roses mostly have no scent. What good is a scentless rose? I've tried growing them in the greenhouse but the mites appear from nowhere to suck them dry.

I can relate to that. We often get weather that cool in June. Sometimes even in July. It's not uncommon to have to wear down jackets for fireworks.
