I finished my first knit with my new BL Enlighten tonight and I FINALLY get why everyone says they don't know how they did without a serger! Since I bought my Enlighten in February, I've been doing mainly some home decor and made a few children's clothes out of cotton....but have stayed away from the knits until today.

I used Simplicity's pattern 5316 and made the pullover top for my niece. I set the neckband in just fine (after watching some videos) and then set the arms in equally as well. This top was so easy and there is absolutely no way I would have been able to get the same result with my sewing machine. I even did blind hems on the bottom and the ends of the arm sleeves since I don't have a coverstitch machine and I didn't want to use my sewing machine. In fact, this was so easy to make, I've already got another few lined up.

I'm simply amazed at this is all I can say! It really boosted my confidence in working with a serger and knits. Now I feel I can go for more of those tricky fabrics I've been avoiding.

And for those with toddlers or small babies, Simplicity's pattern #5316 is really amazing. The overalls are so easy to make and so is this shirt. I've been using it for years to make the pants and overalls and now I can add the pullover top to the list. The pattern has been discontinued, but I picked up an extra copy on eBay for next to nothing.

Congratulations! I've had my serger for over 15 years and it still scares the crap out of me!
