I wasn't sure which forum to post this under, but since I use this stuff mostly for pattern tracing/alteration I figured it would be best here?

Tracing paper at GS Direct
I got two rolls of this paper last year and I love using it. Literally cannot live without it as I like to trace my patterns before cutting/altering them. The regular price on this site is already the best I've found so far, and they're having a sale this month! This price doesn't include shipping though, so it's a much better deal if you stock up in one go.

Thank you for posting this. I'll bookmark them for next time. Recently, I bought some paper from Nancy's Notions but it's not as durable as this, as this is drafting paper and Nancy's is like a durable tissue paper. Here's the breakdown on pricing:
Nancys: 58,212 sq. inches (21 in. x 77 yd) @8.99
GS Direct: 43,200 sq. inches (24 in. x 50 yd) @9.60

Not a bad price difference for very durable paper. Thanks for the link!

I bought mine from Amazon ... it was identical to Nancy's Notions (the purchase before last) and worked out to be $3.25 a roll. I also got free shipping as a prime customer.

Not a sale - just their everyday price. You do have to buy 12 rolls.

Wow, this is a screaming good deal on tracing paper. I swear by this type of paper for tracing patterns and keep both 18 and 24 inch paper in both colors on hand in my sewing room.

Thanks for the link.

Can anyone tell me if the paper sold by Nancy's notions is the same type of tracing paper that is sold on a pad? I'm currently using tracing paper that comes on a pad to pin a pattern to a baby quilt and it would be nice to have a 21" wide roll on hand, if it would work.

The paper sold by NN is medical exam paper.

It's the same paper doctors' offices use to cover exam tables.

I had been ordering from NN but bought 12 rolls from Amazon. It is slightly thinner than NN's but still sturdier than pattern tissue. In fact, I like it better than NN because I can see through it better.

I haven't used medical exam paper for pattern work so I can't really make an educated comment about the difference between the papers, but I will say that I really like having the wider width with the tracing paper. The first tracing paper I ever used was this 18" roll of canary paper I picked up at SIL Thread on a whim, and while I liked the transparency of it, I felt it was a little narrow for some things, like full or flared skirts, and patterns that have a lot of volume, so I got 36" paper when I needed more. I can imagine the wider width might actually make it cumbersome for some people, though, especially if you don't have a wide table. For me it's perfect because my glass-top dining table is just a tad wider so I can roll it out and have a nice wide surface to work on.

The thing I like best about this paper though is a property I've heard referred to as "bite," which is I guess kind of related to its texture and how it grabs your pencil lead. Writing/drawing on this paper has a sensation that is kind of hard to describe, kind of like the "hand" of a fabric, but I find it really pleasant.

No. The paper sold by NN is more like wrapping tissue, but slightly firmer. The paper on a tracing pad is more like the GS Direct paper, which is really durable.
