Necchi or White?

I am so new to sewing (an infant) please help with some advice. I can buy a Necchi 543 for $30 or a White 2037 for $25. Donít know which would be better. They both have been taken care of. I donít plan on doing anything wildly creative, was just going to do repairs and hemming. Sewing buttons back on would be nice too! Thank you for any and all input. I love reading reviews and advice from the advanced sewers.

That necchi is pretty old so you have to wonder about parts availability. It's sturdy though. The white is newer and has more stitches. For your intended use, either is fine but the white might use more generic parts and be easier to repair if needed.

I have no opinion on the machines not having come across either of them - but - if you have an infant, you must must must start making some 'little something's for them. It's just so rewarding - and easy.

bring some fabric & thread and play with each machine for awhile. see which feel right to you. i never had a necchi. i had a white which seemed fairly sturdy. good luck.

I have used a Necchi 543 and it was fine. I would imagine the White is much the same. If you can tell, the condition and competeness of the machine would be the selling point for me. If one has attachments, that would be great.
