I thought I would share some pics of my Singer. I LOVE this machine and it's going to take me a bit to master the technique of sewing on it.

This machine has been well used as you can see from the decal wear. It belonged to my dear hubby's Grandmother and have had lots of use over the years. There was a little booklet that came with it and I'm sharing that too.

Your 127 Sphinx treadle is lovely and a rich patina on the cabinet! Is it the table or drawing room cabinet that you have? How nice that it is a family heirloom as well. It does take a lot of practice and still if you don't use it often it is like starting over again. It took me awhile to get the hang of threading the bobbin evenly.
I will get my DH to take pictures tomorrow of my 127 to upload here. Thanks so much for sharing.

I have cabinet # 6 and it's beautiful. If I ever stumble on the drawing room cabinet I'm snatching that baby up. These machines are so darn cheap to buy it's hard to believe.

Can't wait to see your machine

It is lovely and you will enjoy using it. I had no trouble with treadling but winding and inserting the bobbin was a bit tricky. Once done a few times has been no problem ever since.

I learned to so on the same machine, but my Grandfather converted it to electric, during the 2nd world war.
It never occured to me that it was old, it just sewed and sewed.

I have the opposite problem. I could wind the bobbin but treadling ~ not so much and was kind of painful to watch but is SO fun

I had thought of putting an electric motor on it just so that I would have more control at slower speeds. I'm having a hard time with doing that since it's a challenge that I'm having fun with.
You are so right Pamela, these things sew and sew. What else in our lives, that has been around that long works as well ~ not much. Cool little gadgets that are

You will have much finer low speed control over this machine once you get the hang of treadling. These vibrating shuttle machines are real pigs to try to control with an electric motor.

You have to practice doing the treadle without thread. As a teenager I worked in a sewing factory using treadle machines. The overseer made me practice for 1 full day and then told me to go home and soak my ankles in hot water and keep moving them. By the end of the second day I could do a steady, consistent stitch.
