Has anyone tried to replace a tension disc. My upper looper disc is not engaging and you have to turn it up to 6 or higher before it will engage and hold the thread.

Nope, never tried replacing that disc. What machine do you have?

You are raising the presser foot lever before threading and lowering it before adjusting the tenson?

Have you tried flossing between the discs? If a piece of lint or thread is in there, it'll hold them apart a little.

Any success with this issue? I'm having a problem with my Kenmore (Janome) thread tension, and believe it is the disc.

It really won't do much good to replace the tension disks. What happens, A LOT, is you think the thread is in between the tension disks, and it's not. Sometimes it just needs to be pulled a little harder. And sometimes it works its way to one side or the other of the disks. And if anything is worn out, it would be the spring. Just stretch the spring back out a little.
