Looking at MF toppers for a relative, entire mattresses are costly.
Do the toppers help much for old bones? Their mattress is fairly new and a firm one.
Kohl's has them on big sale this weekend.

Our new mattress was too firm and a memory topper has been a blessing.

The one we got came rolled up in a box, looked like it would never work, but we left it relax for a few hours and presto - a topper that feels like jell-o to the touch and heaven to the achy body.

We have had one on our bed about 5 years. I think it makes quite a difference. I do not find it makes it hotter or cooler to sleep on than regular mattress. ... We are talking about getting a new one this year sometime. I think we got our money's worth out of it fine. This time we want to get 4 inch one. ...also it is very easy to make the bed with topper on. ....
I hope you find one you really like.

For a firm mattress? Absolutely.

But check around- the Kohl's sale prices look astronomical to me.

ETA- Be sure to get a thicker one, but also make sure that you're getting the full thickness, and not 1" of low quality fiberfill, an inch of memory foam, and 2" of other foam for a 4" topper.

I like mine, too. Check Overstock.com because they sometimes have good deals on them.

If the topper is too thick, the bottom sheet may need "mitten" type snaps w/elastic to hold the corners of the sheet in place e.

Yes! They are great! I have one on my pillow-top mattress. I have some nerve damage, spine and neck problems, and the topper provides a great deal of relief. I used to wake up in the middle of the night with limbs having fallen asleep. No more! I also have a foam pillow that is curved to "neck shape" (like this)

They do retain a bit of body heat, though, so if you like to be *warm* while you sleep this can be a plus.

We actually just put the sheet on the topper only, and have another sheet on the mattress itself.

We have an egg crate and memory foam topper on our queen sized mattress so it's extra thick. I buy king size sheets and alter the bottom sheet to fit.

Just on the subject of sheets, I just put the bottom sheet on the bed without tucking it in at all, much like you would put a table cloth on a table. It works fine for us, the sheet doesn't move, and that way it doesn't matter how thick the mattress is. We have a latex and a memory foam topper on our mattress.

I do make my own sheets from heavy hotel grade cotton sheeting though, so I'm not sure if it would work for thinner sheets too.
